Feelin' creative. Not really sure why, but if the mood takes you right? I
would claim that I had a bout of insomnia (now that sounds artistic
)
but I do rather feel like sleeping, so I think that somewhat disqualifies
that claim. Whilst the stars play out their opera, the breeze burst into room,
and the urge to write, which has stealthily avoided me for a few weeks, washed
over me like
like
Hmm - fun whilst it lasted.
Interesting couple of weeks. I've booked myself in for a bit of R&R, frankly to recover from my previous R&R. Can you believe how many bank holidays we have in England? For those who are not familiar with the wonderful concept of "bank holidays" they are public holidays in which most 'normal' people don't work. I say 'normal' with my little quotation marks, because if no one worked it'd be a pretty crap day, what with no electricity, television, buses, trains etc. etc. Of course these brave souls generally get paid more for their labours, and speaking from experience long ago, I rather look forward to these occasions - as a student it really doesn't matter if it's a Monday or Saturday, let alone a public holiday - as I got paid an almost decent wage Yet I stray from the point.
The point is that everyone needs more time to recover from their weekends or holidays than they do from work. I guess really that's not a point, but more of a statement. Does it really matter? Maybe not. I'm not now going to launch into a advocacy of a three day week (a.k.a. a job in 'senior management' - although clearly not where I work) but rather a point about my own psyche. I crave company sometimes. Then I am overwhelmed or simply exhausted, and need time off, then I get bored and crave company perhaps I simply need a hamster (with claws). It's clear a balance needs to be struck. Word of the day: dichotomy.
But as a friend once said "I'm bored of sleeping". It is such a dull activity. Dahl, who should be paid homage to at every opportunity for his excellent literary accomplishments, had the right idea with the BFG (read the book). Moving away from children's books, ironically, it is also a euphemism for one of the most exciting/desired activities humankind gets up to. The campaign for plain English should extend their remit to changing the meaning of "I slept with " to a more accurate rendition; if it must be a euphemism, than I suggest either blacking out/passing out, or being extremely bored.
The sad truth is when I am tired there is quite literally no substitute for sleep. Like The End, it can be put off, delayed, time shifted, but not avoided. My time should actually be occupied by sleeping. Which is what I fully intend to do once this rather lame attempt at late night inspiration is put to bed
but as always, and is right with the world
and I feel fine.
The End.
(see. I told you.)
